Dunellen, NJ: Melanie Tirpak, owner and hairdresser at Melanie's Salon, opened her shop on Sunday April 28th for the third annual Cut-a-Thon. For the past two years, the Cut-a-Thon raised money for the American Cancer Society with the help from Vinnie Seihl, long time friend and "Low and Slow Team" marathon racer. Dunellen residents and friends of the salon come in on a Sunday for a 20$ haircut. All proceeds go to the cause.
This year, Mel had a different idea in mind. With community service and the love of supporting members of her community, Mel and Vinnie decided to donate the money raised to a Dunellen resident, Jessica Williams, who was injured during the Times Square Vehicle attack in May 2017. Melanie's Salon hairdressors were volunteering as well as a stylist from Dunellen's Shear Motion Salon down the street.
Jessica was invited to the Cut-a-Thon but was totally shocked to find out that the fundraiser was for her. Her mother, Mrs. Williams, had a tough time keeping the secret and later, holding in tears when Jessica beamed with gratitude as she walked through the door.
Congratulations to Melanie, Vinnie and all who helped make the 3rd Annual Cut-A-Thon a success. Last year, JLK Media videotaped the Cut-a-Thon. Check it out on our videos page.
